Layne Riggs Snatches Pole in Darlington Truck Series Qualifying
By Oleksii Hrachov, RaceFrontier 🏁
Darlington Raceway. Friday, August 29th.
The air thick with Carolina heat, the stands buzzing, engines echoing through the “Lady in Black.” It wasn’t the Cup stars on track tonight — it was the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and they put on a qualifying show that screamed grit and raw speed.
Layne Riggs, driving for Front Row Motorsports, laid down a storming lap — 29.323 seconds at 167.705 mph — planting his name on the pole for Saturday night’s. A lap so clean, it looked like Darlington’s infamous walls were bowing to him.
Chandler Smith came close, locking in P2, while Corey Heim, the series’ relentless hammer, will start third. Behind them, veterans and rookies alike jostle for space in a lineup that promises elbows-out racing.
This wasn’t just about speed. It was about control, nerve, and who could tame Darlington’s abrasive surface when it mattered. Tonight, Riggs showed he had all three. Tomorrow? It’s going to be war. Trucks, sparks, and the grind of 200 miles on the track that always strikes back.
So buckle up, Darlington. The trucks are here, and the chaos starts with Riggs on pole.
